China has abundant animal blood resources, but the utilization level of animal blood is relatively backward. Except for a few used for making blood tofu, some places use dry blood powder as protein feed. However, due to its low digestibility and poor palatability, it is rarely used by breeding farms and feed factories. Animal blood dry matter contains 80-90% crude protein, but due to the difficulty in preserving blood and the serious pollution caused by existing slaughter methods, it is not suitable for consumption, resulting in a large amount of blood being wasted and causing serious environmental pollution.

With the vigorous development of China's aquaculture industry, on the one hand, the demand for feed is increasing, and on the other hand, the impact on the environment is becoming increasingly severe. According to reports, the shortage of feed protein resources in China is as high as 51.4%, and the annual resource of livestock and poultry blood in China is 6 million tons, which can be used to produce 1.5 million tons of pure blood powder. However, most of this vast protein resource has not been fully utilized. It is estimated that 50% of China's fresh blood has not been utilized and has been washed into sewers. This not only causes serious waste of resources, but also increases the pollution index of ammonia nitrogen in groundwater and rivers, seriously polluting water resources. If developing this part of blood resources can not only solve the problem of environmental pollution, but also increase the source of protein feed. The crude protein content in blood powder is as high as 80%, with a complete range of amino acids, especially lysine, which is very rich in content. Therefore, its potential nutritional value is very high.

In the 1990s, the United States successfully developed spray dried plasma protein powder and blood powder, which solved the problem of ineffective utilization of blood resources. China began importing these two products from the United States in the late 1990s for use as feed for piglets, sows, fish, shrimp, and other animals. In 2002 alone, China imported a total of 2000 tons of plasma protein powder and 8000 tons of blood powder, valued at RMB 150 million.
